Cirrux Backup as your first step
to independence

If you're like me, you've been using products from Google and Microsoft for years. That means gigabytes of data which you've created and stored in their systems. Switching to something else is a big step.

That's why I'm building Cirrux Backup. In a few clicks, you can link your existing accounts. Cirrux will do the heavy lifting of copying over your data. You can keep using your existing tools, until you're ready to switch. And you can always export your data to import into any other product you like.

How exactly does it work?

Simple: you create a Cirrux account. After that, you can sign in with your existing account. Currently Cirrux supports Gmail. Cirrux will start copying over your data—you can see the progress in the app.

Can you now read all my emails?

Only for a split second. Your emails are encrypted before they're saved and no one but you can decrypt them.

Here's how:

• Using the Cirrux Downloader App, you create your own encryption key
• This key consists of a public and private key
• The only key that's stored in the Cirrux database is the public key. This key is used to encrypt your emails, but cannot be used to decrypt them
• Cirrux downloads your emails and as soon as each individual email is downloaded, it's encrypted using your public key and saved on a secure storage server located in Amsterdam
• You can use the Cirrux Downloader App to download your emails. It will download the encrypted data and use your locally stored private key to decrypt them.
• On top of that, the keys that Cirrux needs to download your emails from Google are also stored encrypted, which means that even if someone were to gain access to the Cirrux database, they would not be able to get access to your account.

As soon as you have your emails downloaded to your machine, they are saved as regular .eml files. This is an universal standard, and you'll be able to read and import these emails into any regular email client.

You don't need to stay subscribed and you don't need to keep the desktop app if you don't care about keeping an up to date backup. As soon as you've downloaded your emails, you'll have them for as long as you want.

What does it cost?

Cirrux Backup costs €3,99 per month, per mailbox. You can cancel at any time. If you subscribe for a year, you'll pay €39.

Next to the backup, you can support the development of Cirrux with two options:

1. Pay an additional €1 per month to lock in your Cirrux email address as soon as it's available
2. Pay an additional €4 per month to get the Cirrux email address as well as being part of the Cirrux community to get an inside look and shape the development of the product and company
